In the afternoon of May 9 , 2019, International Summit on Canal and Creative Cities of Gastronomy was held in Huai’an. Representatives of creative cities, overseas Chinese entrepreneurs, leaders of provincial, municipal catering associations, cuisine associations and other business associations along the Grand Canal attended the summit.
On May 9, 2019, representatives from 12 UCCN gastronomy cities, including Phuket of Thailand, Ostersund of Sweden, Shunde, Suzhou and Wuhan, etc. as well as leaders of UNESCO Asia-Pacific Center and China Cuisine Association, came to Huai’an to participate in the consultation meeting.
In order to promote the application, learn from foreign experience and practices in October 2018, the municipal leaders and its team went to Ostersund, Sweden.
From September 19 to 21, 2018, Mayor Cai Lixin led a team to Chengdu, Sichuan province, to study the experience of economic development of the hub, the building of the City of Gastronomy and the construction of commercial, cultural and tourism industry projects.
On April 19, 2018, the launching ceremony of Huai'an's application for UCCN City of Gastronomy and the high-end Seminar on the development of Huai'an cuisine industry were held in Huai'an, Jiangsu province. Huai'an announces that it has officially launched the application for UCCN City of Gastronomy and issued the Declaration on the Inheritance and Development of Huaiyang Cuisine.
In order to guide Huai’an’s application of City of Gastronomy, Mr. Dag Hartman, coordinator of Gastronomy Group of UNESCO Creative City Network was invited to Huai’an from April 4 to 5, 2018. Mr. Hartman visited Jiangsu Food and Pharmaceutical Science College, Huaiyang Cuisine Culture Museum and Hexia Ancient Town.
